Tobacco-Free Campus is
a movement led by post-secondary students across Alberta who are
concerned about the health and well-being of their fellow-students
and their communities.
Tobacco-Free Campus leaders advocate for policy changes at their
campus that will:
- Protect students and workers from second-hand smoke: Including
student residences, campus bars, and other social settings.
- Prohibit advertising and other tobacco company promotions: Including
ads in campus newspapers for tobacco company events, tobacco advertisements
in campus bars, and events sponsored by tobacco companies.
- Remove tobacco promotions from campus stores. Ban displays of
cigarettes and signs behind or on the counter of the store.
- Stop selling tobacco products on campus.
- Prohibit investments in, and donations from, the tobacco industry.
- Help students who are trying to quit. Ensure that Health Services
staff follow clinical practice guidelines and have resources available
for students and staff who are ready to quit.
